How it started
In December 1937 Japanese soldiers marched into china's capitol ,Nanjing. They murdered over 300,000 soldiers and civilians. The Japanese seek revenge from china since they struggled to win the battle of Shanghai. They took thousands of Chinese captive and killed them all. They first wanted to focus on destroying any threat to them meaning the Chinese soldiers. But after the P.O.W camps (prisoner of war) were destroyed, including everyone in them, they focused on the women. Older and younger women were dragged out of their homes to be sexually assaulted, forced to become sex slaves. Women were ganged raped and killed. Pregnant women were also raped, had their stomachs split open and the fetuses torn out. Japanese troops often invaded homes and ordered Chinese men to rape their daughters, sons to rape their mothers, and brothers to rape their sisters, while the family watched.
what it lead to
Those who were not killed on the spot were taken to the outskirts of Nanjing to dig out graves for corpse. The Japanese enjoyed the suffering of the Chinese. They made them dig for days at a time without food or water. The Chinese were frequently forced to bury each other alive in the dirt. Japanese commanders influenced "killing games" to compete on who could kill the most people. They organized special events and news reporters to crown the "winner".
how it ended
The people who didn't flee to somewhere else and still lived in Nanjing were told to flee to the safety zone in the western part of the city. Many Japanese commanders that participated in the killings were put on trial. Eventually many Japanese officers tried to flee to different parts of the world many were caught and put on trial, but there are still some out there. The Japanese won the war against the Chinese and their chaos ended. Many Japanese politicians deny the massacre and claim they liberated the western Asians from Nanjing.
